...to be aware of a place where Blackness was not a mark of slavery.

Support our dream…

Phase 1:

Develop a network of existing domestic/international retreat centers. This includes providing funding for participants in existing programming as well as WSLL programming.  We also desire the opportunity to resource the development of members of our network as they request. This can include grants to support building infrastructure on the land, staffing, programming and outreach. Workstreams:

  • Initial fundraising/reparations cultivation

    • Operational infrastructure development

    • Fundraising/sustainability infrastructure development (i.e. fiscal sponsor; 501(c)3, etc.)

  • Initial program development

  • Initial program recruitment

  • Network development / solidification (partnerships, agreements, communications, etc.)

Phase 2:

Development of short-term work and future phases/fundraising campaigns that will expand retreat sizes/lengths, residencies, sabbatical, and agricultural self-sufficiency. (TBD) We will strive for a balance of revenue-producing retreats and opportunities, with subsidized opportunities for Black and Indigenous peoples to participate in alignment with the programming created that honors our Mission and the Vision.

Phase 2 guiding areas of development:

  • Programmatic and Residential Opportunities will include land-based healing, rebalance and rest, self-determination, land stewardship, and food growth. This includes short-term programming opportunities and longer-term residential/sabbatical offerings for individuals and their families.

  • Clarifying process for how we engage internal practice to center the safety, accessibility, and other needs of Black and Indigenous people, honor Land Back for Indigenous communities, and engage non-Black communities to support community healing and financial sustainability of WSLL.

  • Having differentiated spaces: Retreat space/events as an income stream, separately space for “being”, living fully realized lives.

  • Engage in mentorships/study of existing Indigenous/Black-led partnerships on various lands around the country
